Background

The British Invasion was a musical movement that took place in the mid-1960s composed of British rock-and-roll groups whose music spread extremely rapidly throughout the United States.

The Beatles were the blueprint for the British Invasion, they made their first visit to America in February 1964, to perform on The Ed Sullivan Show, but only made a couple of appearances, (this was not classified as an actual tour). The Beatles first real US tour began a few months later in August 1964.

The Rolling Stones were a band that followed the Beatles in the British Invasion. The Rolling Stones' first American tour was in June of 1964, they were heavily influenced by American R&B and many of the songs they played during this first tour were covers. The Beatles were also heavily influenced by American R&B and played covers during their first US tour.

In this project I will compare and contrast the popularity of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and the different ways they were portrayed by the American media.
